About Us

Our involvement with Rocky Mountain Horses began in 1992 when we read an article in “Kentucky Living” magazine about this unique Eastern Kentucky breed. Shortly after that we visited a farm and went into a field with perhaps twenty mares and foals of all ages, and the horses gathered around like curious, lovable dogs. We knew that we wanted to own a Rocky and soon bought a four-month-old daughter of Mocha Mundy and Nuncio. Subsequently we visited Eugene Sebastian in Jackson, Kentucky. Mr. Sebastian, a retired school superintendent, had been raising and showing these horses for many years. We spent many hours with him and his wife, Vada, looking at horses and talking about the breed. As our interest in the horses grew, we decided to make a lifestyle change and moved to a farm ten miles north of Bowling Green where we could raise a few horses and have the wildlife habitat that Ron desired. We bought Reb’s Big Blue, a yearling colt, from the Sebastians who graciously agreed to keep him until we had completed our fencing and barn. Donnie Gillum trained “Blue” and campaigned him, and he came home to Rebel Ridge as the three-year-old State and International Champion stallion under saddle. Blue’s dam, Sebastian’s Misty Blue, was a daughter of Tobe, her dam having been bred on Mr. Tuttle’s place before being sold to the Sebastians. We felt fortunate to have such a fine example of the breed, and his son Elton John continues that heritage here today.

In the years since we bought that first filly, we have carefully added select mares to our breeding program. We also acquired a black stallion, Johny’s Pride, a son of Buddy Roe. Johny's offspring have consistently excelled when judged for conformation and all exhibit his even temperament.  He has produced many Chanpions and Grand Champions, shown by both amateurs and professionals.  We usually have two or three foals each year. They are imprinted at birth, vet checked, given their shots and dewormed on a regular basis, and provided with the best nutrition possible. All of our foals are accustomed to being trimmed by the farrier, led in a halter, and loaded in a trailer. We feel that the attention shown only reinforces that wonderful Rocky Mountain disposition.

We often show several of our young horses at the International Show at the Kentucky Horse Park in September and Elsie has shown her mare, Rebel Ridge Maggie Blue. In 2008 Rebel Ridge Anna topped an illustrious show career when as a five year old, she was judged Grand Champion in Conformation and named the Sam Tuttle Memorial Award winner at the RMHA International Show. We elected not to show while Ron was president of the RMHA. (2011-2012), but the day following his passing the gavel we were proud that Rebel Ridge Vindicator was judged Champion 2 year-old colt!

We are real breed enthusiasts, and attempt to raise horses that contribute to the overall quality of Rocky Mountain Horses.

Why the Rocky Mountain Breed?

If you’re looking for a beautiful, gaited, solid color horse of medium size, that is biddable and comfortable for miles on the trail, that’s an easy keeper and who will greet you at the fence in the morning, that question is answered.
